bottle openers

This is one of the coolest bottle openers I’ve ever seen . . .

For $78 that thing had better do a lot more than open my bottles and tickle my math/science geek innards.

With the way it’s made I’m not convinced it would be sturdy enough to actually use much without breaking it, then it’s just an expensive broken paperweight.  There’s plenty of cool looking expensive paperweights on that site though.

my favorite bottle opener of all time was a railroad spike with a notch in the head. fit perfectly and laid flat over the cap and would not damage the cap lifting it off. my wife has one that is a cylinder that fits over the entire cap then you slap down the top and it lifts off the cap.

I have two favorites.  The first one was purchased by a friend of mine at the Vatican gift shop.  It has Pope Paul on one side and the Vatican on the other (in gold, of course).  I understand the the Pope sometimes blesses everything in the gift shop, so I’m sticking to that story.
The other one I got at Club Night at last year’s NHC from the Rock Hoppers Brew Club.  It is a Kobalt brand 3/8 ratchet wrench with the gears taken out so the head of it is hollow.  It’s also a very pleasing weight and could be used as a weapon in a pinch.

I’m partial to the ones that you often get as competition swag.  You know, the small ones that are designed to go on your keyring.  Never get caught without that way.

Hey, maybe Zymurgy could do a story on bottle openers!

This is the “Popener.”  I brought a bunch back from my honeymoon, but failed to keep one for myself.

Could have fooled me Tom. Doesn’t look anything like a bottle opener. They get an A for creativity.

Ah, you remember the Dark Ages…

Best. Issue. Ever.

That was a long time ago . . . I wonder if I still have it?

My favorite is a modified key that I keep on my key ring. http://www.suck.uk.com/product.php?rangeID=15&catID=6

That looks like a standard door key to you guys?

Also, I was driving home last night, and I suddenly thought to myself, “does anyone actually use paperweights?”

Yep. That’s what we refer to as a ‘Chubb Key’ - it works the mortice deadlock which is standard on a British front door.

No idea what language this is but it’s in-keeping with the theme…Well, klein bottles, anyway, not openers…

I have the Zinc Starr wall mounted bottle opener. This one is cool too.
