I’m watching the premiere of “Brew Dogs” ( based around the Scottish guys from Brewdog). They’re doing the first episode at Stone in San Diego. Nice. Greg Koch figures pretty prominently, which is nice too. They’re actually brewing a batch with Greg, so it attempts to be fairly educational. Pretty entertaining - hope it stays that way.
Saw it, thought it was insightful and pretty amusing. Not sure I’d put kelp in my beer, though… I guess it’s still better than beaver anus, no?
Yeah the kelp was a stretch. Pretty good show anyway.
Didn’t they brew on a train? I didn’t watch long enough to get why that was.
Yep. They said that it had allegedly never been done before. Per the railway regulations, they did it with electric kettle heating instead of propane.
I did like the show. I thought the plot was kind of hokey (seemed to mirror the formula for every other TLC-like realty show), but I liked the hosts and Greg Koch was awesome. I think it offered more beer info than the Sam Calagione show a couple of years ago. I also liked the food and beer pairing segment, along with the top 5 places in San Diego to go to. I will definitely watch every week.
Is their beer any good? Because the hype and gimmick really f’ing turns me off.
Yeah, my cable doesn’t carry the show and I’m not sure I’d watch it anyway. Kind of a “jump the shark” thing AFAIAC.
What’s it Dixon says? “It’s beer, not a popularity contest.”
Not to take away from y’all’s tv viewing enjoyment, to b sure.
I watched it and really didn’t like it too much. As mentioned above, that brewing on the train thing and brewing w/ kelp was gimmicky. Not the worst show on TV, but I’ll probably skip the next episodes.
Personally, I’m still waiting for the Denny and Keith reality show. ;D
Damn, now THAT would be good!
Actually, about a year ago the AHA put reality TV crew from LA in touch with me. They wanted to do a show about men who were passionate about their hobbies. I made a couple demos that they liked, but in the end I couldn’t fake the stuff they wanted me to. They wanted a guy with a big fancy system who was in conflict with his wife about the hobby. I just couldn’t pull that off, so I passed.
The reality of brewing is as much as I like to do it it just isn’t fun to watch someone brew beer.
This is not necessarily a reason to do something. There are many things that have never been done before for good reasons.
… and then we wait two weeks… really guys, that’s it… ahh come on turn off the cameras already… I’m outa here… Dude! I’m in the fing bathroom… THUD!!
Haven’t seen it yet. I’ll check it out when I can. Brewing beer is serious AND fun. That’s a difficult fusion for TV. Not saying it can’t be done. It’s one or the other IMO. Science or entertainment.
Saw a little bit of it, just didn’t keep my interest. Ended up watching Ironman 3. :o
Same here. Saw the train bit and figured I could do better things with my time.
Lame.
Agreed, its like someone’s signature on here. Brewing is like porn, OK to watch but way more fun to make yourself.
Let’s say Samuel Clemens was a hobby brewer. Might be a whole lot of fun waiting to bottle.
