On this week’s episode of the Brew Files, Drew sits down with Peter Symons, the author of Bronzed Brews - a collection of recipes and research of Australia’s fascinating history of brewing. We talk about the experience of delving into brewery archives. Why Foster’s isn’t Australian for beer. How historical Australian beers were brewed (what their goals were, etc) Lastly, we’ll even grab some tips and tricks for making your recreations spot on!

Basic Brewing also interviewed Peter:

Here’s a link to his book:

I still enjoy Coopers Sparkling Ale!

The high amounts of sugar in some of the historic beers suggests lengthy aging.

I have good memories of that beer.  I’ve brewed a few versions of Australian sparking ale, but it’s been a long time since I’ve had the real thing to compare it to.

Really enjoyed the episode!  I’ve never had an Oz Sparkling, but it has definitely moved up a few spots on my to-brew list!

Thanks!

That was really interesting.  I may have to pick up a copy of the book.

Looking forward to hearing Peter speak at HBC…
