Burned Wort?

Can someone tell me how burned wort taste like?

I have burned two of my heating elements while I was was at my 90 minites boil.
Elements were submerged and I was VERY surprised that happened.

My theory is.
I was adding Sinemar to my Dark Lager at 60 min and some of the Sinemar got on the element.
I used Sinemar before with no problem.

Beer is fermenting now.

I think if it was scorched you would taste an ashy flavor, that’s how I perceived it with a whopping sample size of 1.

I can’t imagine sinemar would do that, but I don’t use heating elements.  Maybe something else happened.  Power surge?  Maybe they’re just going bad?  I don’t know.  i suppose if you dumped it right on the elements they could burn out, but that’s surprising.

I do not taste any ashy flavour.

It is just a theory.
They burned out like they were run dry.
Never saw anything like that in my 39 batches on this brewhouse.

We were hoping you would tells us ;D

How clean were they? I had something similar happen when the elements weren’t cleaned properly.

Burned wort tastes…well, burnt.  Like any other burned sugar.  Not very good.

My first decoction mash many years ago, I burnt the decoction mash.  (Lesson learned from that:  add some water to the thickest 1/3 of the mash after you pull it and before you start to boil it).  The burnt flavor carried over into the final beer, which was an Oktoberfest.  Oddly enough, the burnt flavor went away after about a year in the bottle,

You are not too much help.

I would say they were pretty clean.
Every so often I use PBW to clean them.
If elements are dirty the whole brewhouse is shaking.
