I’ve been busy the past few weeks and completely forgot about an opened 50 pound bag of Briess 2-row I left in the basement. The bag and the grain felt slightly damp so I gave some of the grain a good chew. They were chewy compared to some properly sealed 2-row I had, but it still tasted fine.
Is there any chance the grain is still good, or should I just chuck it out?
If it tastes good, it’s probably fine. I’d mill it with a slightly tighter gap. In essence, you just grain conditioned it. If you want it to last, I’d dry it out ASAP.
If your grain is actually damp & not just stale, you should be able to dry it a bit, in the hot sun.
It probably won’t take very long…Like a matter of minutes.
If your garage gets hot from the sun, it’s a good bet it’s dry in there and will remove some of the moisture content.Leave the bag open of course. Might take three or four days but, it should extend it’s shelf life considerably.
