Coleman Extreme 70qt Silver

Hey

My local big box is advertising a Coleman Extreme 70qt Silver cooler for $44.99.  I currently use the same one in blue.  Would there be a difference other than color?

I assume you’re joking.

I’ve had the silver for 4 years and made 99 delicious batches with it thus far, and I"m just breaking it in  ;D

Yes, your efficiency will fall by approximately 247.6% by using a silver cooler…

I measured it at 153.1% denny

Fred

Well, I am holding out for the green one now guys… ;D

Oh, man, that’s negative efficiency territory!  It will actually remove beer from your fridge if you use a green one!  ;D

Darn

At $44.00 for a silver one that is a good deal.

I was going to pick two of them up.  They would have been drop shipped to Denny another for Fred for testing.  But it looks like they already tested them so, no, I won’t be sending any now.

Blue is cheaper & makes much better beer IMO…

Hey, we could always test again just to verify!

I got my blue one at Walmart for 39.99.  Might want to shop around if you’re a tightwad like me.

Anyone have a good guide to convert this into a kickass mash-tun?  I’m just not sure how I would cut the  plastic to put in the hardware.

www.dennybrew.com is where most people will direct you. There’s also a pretty in-depth chapter near the back of How to Brew.

I used a Dremel with a multipurpose bit to cut a hole in mine. If that’s more than you want to do, just use a cooler with a drain already cut.

These are the instructions I followed:

Picked up my silver one in 2005 for 24.99. ;D

Amazon has the 70 qt blue one for $36 and free shipping.

Woo Hoo! I got one! :o

Yep, me too  :)

I was going to get the 52 qt but the 70 was cheaper.

Just got mine in the mail today.  Looks like I’m going to have to follow these instructions.  I was hoping to just pop in a new mini-keg bung and move the assembly from the old mash tun but the walls on this one are a lot thicker and that’s not going to work.  Good news that this one is better insulated but I guess I’m heading out to Lowe’s again.

I just got mine in the mail today.  I’m leaving Thursday for CO, but I’ll make sure to stop by Home Depot for parts when I get back.  This is going to be a lot easier than trying to make an IPA with a 23lb grain bill in my tiny 5gal converted Igloo.

Mine was there when I got home from work last night.  Looks like time to move from 5 to 10 gallon batches
