The reason I asked because I was looking in Beersmith and the Gambrinus Dark Munich is listed at 30L and the light at 10L. I think I’ll shoot for something in the 10-15L range.

Is the dark Munich something like 30L?
20L I think
Briess makes 20L Munich that is quite strong. I would not use it as a base malt. Shills dark Munich used to be 15L but now it is about 10L.
Agreed…dark Munich typically runs 10L range.
Durst has a 40 EBC Munich, that turns out to be 15.5 Lovibond.
Schill also has one that dark.

This is where my assumption comes from. I use the gambrinus or the great western and they are both 10L for the ‘light’ or normal.
This is making me want to delete all of the malts in my software and build up again using name brands.
The dark munich we(devils backbone) use is on the darker side, 20 range I would have to double check on the brand I believe it is the shills off the top of my head.
Thanks Warren and great talk. This was one I definitely did not want to miss and you guys didn’t disappoint.

According to brew toad, 1 Degree Lovibond (L) is = 1.171362 EBC
8-10
Edit. Corrected crappy math
can anyone break down the percentages to pounds of ingredients. I am about 4-5 hours away from this brewery as i reside in VA. can’t wait to attempt this brew.
Cheers!

Depends on batch size and expected efficiency. Let me know both and I can throw it together.
my Batch size would be 5 gallon All Grain, and 72% efficiency. would my local Homebrew USA have most of the grains? and which yeast should i use with it.
Regards
Dave

Which yeast? They say Augustiner, which is said to be WLP-860 which is a seasonal strain. It may be out soon.
Ok found out how to convert percentages to pounds with my tool.

Why would you want to use your tool for that?

Good stuff!
ok the software is Beersmith. when I put in my numbers for percentages for the grain bill, it gives me this:
1.52# of Vienna Malt
1.52# of Pilsner
.48# of Amber Malt
and .48# of Munich Dark
seems light for the grain bill I am doing a 5gal batch
:-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
For 6 gallons at the end of boil 70% eff
7lb Pilsner
7lb Vienna
2lb 3oz munich
2lb 3oz cara Amber
I leave a half gallon in the kettle and target 5.5 in the fermenter.
For an even 5 gallons at the end
5lb 12oz Pilsner
5lb 12oz Vienna
1lb 13oz munich
1lb 13oz cara Amber
Loose about an ounce of each for 72%

Once you have your percentages correct, use the “adjust gravity” button to change to your target gravity and you will see your grain bill increase
I liked the samples at NHC, it is on my list of lagers to brew this year.
