Dropped part of plastic bag in water, help?

While pouring grains into the water from the plastic bag they came in (from a brewer’s supply store, arrived in mail day prior) i kinda lost control of the bag and part of it dipped into the water. Everything else that touched that water i had naturally cleaned as best i could, but the plastic bag was just, well, a plastic bag that came in a box. Is that something to be concerned about or am i being neurotic?

Edit: also just noticed a bit of paper floating around in there, the kind that the malt bags were packaged in. Unsure how long it’s been there but probably 30-60 min.

Just in the mash? If so, you’ll be fine - the brewing process is incredibly forgiving before the end of the boil!

yeah just in the mash, thanks lol

No worries! I remember those days of starting out and being worried about every little miscue! You’ll quickly figure out where it matters, where it doesn’t actually and where you still feel like worrying because it’s your comfort process (or maybe that’s just me!)

Reminds me of the time my brother was helping me brew a batch. Somehow I had a water leak and in all the excitement, I hollered to him to throw me a rag to wipe up the water and the rag went right in the boil kettle! I was just heating up the water, but I dumped it all and started over. Glad I wasn’t boiling the wort. Stll have a few laughs talking about the “Rag Time Ale”. Everything turned out ok…

There are people who mash in hollowed out logs and filter though juniper branches. I think your wort will survive contact with a plastic bag or even a rag.

If it was jus tin the mash you will be fine. I have had road dust blown in. One afternoon while getting the mash ready, I had a drywall panel fall from the ceiling of my garage. There was dust everywhere. Luckily, I had not started the boil so a new rinse of the pot got things back on track. But, I have had people drop pencils and even a measuring cup in my mashtun but everything worked on in the end. No worries in my opinion. Just one more lesson to remember for next time.

A little extra gypsum in the brew never hurt anybody

But no diapers in the fermenting pail. (there’s a throwback reference for some of y’all)

This reminds me of Klickitat Jim’s hot dog water story.
