Where would you put a hoppy wheat beer?
50/50 Pilsner/Wheat with 1.5 oz Citra at 15 mins and 1.5 oz Sorachi Ace at 10 mins with 1 oz of each dry hopped.
Cloudly like a wheat, hopped like a pale ale. Not overly bitter due to all late hopping.
Thanks
German hefe yeast or American Ale yeast?
Sorry, big pitch of WLP001 at 68F. American Wheat was the goal.
Long story short, was going to do a wit for a competition. Entry date changed from what I was expecting so I won’t get the wit done so I need to enter something else.
Sounds a lot like Three Floyds Gumballhead, which is in the bjcp guidelines as an American Wheat, 6D.
+1
What does it tastes like most importantly? A wheat beer then enter it in 6D. If it leans toward very hoppy, like a pale ale or IPA, then category 23.
That’s the right place, indeed. But from my experience, not all judges read the guidelines so they might find it too hoppy. Still, it’s the right place. Just preparing you for a possible hosing.
