After about a year, some $, a swollen hand from drilling out pots, and a lot of questions about why I’m doing this from my wife, the rig is done! Thanks for all those that helped with posts. Notice the badass plate chiller from Duda Energy. Maiden voyage today at my “Man Day” celebration. Can’t wait!
BTW-It’s natural gas not propane as I see the canister on the left. Had a line run in to my garage…
Man, that is a beauty < green with envy>. Nice work, Dave !
Wow!
Where do you put the dilithium crystals?
yeah thas incredible-congrats!
So jealous.
:) Next to the matter/anti matter switch, I guess.
That’s what I’m talking about! That chiller is huge Dave. I’d name it John C…
Looks good, I need your controls! I bet it rocks its maiden voyage. Let us know how it went, awesome job.
congrats dave!
Very nice. I hope it works how you expect!
very nice, good luck with it!
Beautiful. A work of art. Now, when you get bored of using it, here’s my home address… :
Thanks boys! It performed flawlessly on Man Day. Made 10G of German Pils for the maiden voyage. The plate chiller took 10G from 212 to 50F in 10 minutes with no ice bath and 45F tap water! Holy crap!
Working on brew #2 this week. Something to use my homegrown Cascades.
Dave
Awesome, well done!
Neat Dave!
Super nice build! One question, why is the burner on the left much lower than the other two?
Excellent question!
If I run these burners at full tilt under the mash or for my strike water, they will overshoot by a couple of degrees and scortch the wort. So the HLT and MT burners are about half power so when they kick on they do not overpower. The Boil Kettle burner gets 15G of 155F wort to boil in about 12 minutes at full tilt. So I keep that one lower so I can power it up all the way. Took this last night to post today so a timely question!
Dave
EDIT: Actually that is at about 75% power…they are sick burners!
Thanks Dave, that makes sense and a nifty solution to an potential problem
Gary
Nice garage heater Dave! Seriously, nice job. What size plate chiller?
Thanks Diane! I do actually have to open the garage during the boil no matter how cold outside as it gets up over 80! The chiller is a Duda Energy high performance chiller. 18.3" long and 40 plates it gets the wort to pitching temps super fast.
