food grade buckets ???

newbe with questions, suprise, suprise.  would 7gl pickle buckets from a local restruant be OK for ferminting & bottling buclets ??  thanks in advance.

If you can get the smell out, then they should be perfect for fermenters & bottling buckets. Most of my fermenters are food-grade buckets of various sizes. They work great for me.

You’re not likely to get the pickle smell out. You have the right idea, though. There are other food-grade buckets available used from restaurants that will work. The 2 gallon buckets that held whipping cream or fruit puree are great. They come completely clean and odor free.

I do have an old pickle bucket that I use - lined with a trash bag or 2 - to store grain.

yeah, you can get the pickle smell out.  You just have to leave them out in the sun for awhile (although I’m not sure if that means a few days, or weeks).  A friend of mine makes wine (award winning) and he uses them.

Do I sense a pickle porter in the works? ;D

A friend of mine used a pickle bucket. Thought he had it clean, no smell etc. The beer came out tasting of pickles. It was a dumper. I wouldn’t risk it. There are too many other cheap buckets available out there.

Hmm, sour mash with lots of Summit & Sorachi Ace, maybe?
