I’m looking for a decent but not over-expensive growler to take with me to homebrew meetings and things like that. I guess size between 1/2 and 1 gallon? I have kegs and a beergun. Also, not sure how to serve. Is a big (stainless steel) bottle good enough, or would I need a faucet? I do have CO2 cartridges, but maybe that’s overkill? And nothing too obscure since it needs to be found in or shipped to Europe.
Any screw top glass jug will work, but I really love the insulated stainless steel growlers. They keep the beer cold, you don’t have to find a cap, and they don’t break.
this looks like the one I have. It is easier to fill the ones with shoulders - they don’t foam up as much.
I have a Kleen Kanteeen and a Fifty/Fifty insulated growlers. They are both vacuum insulated, not foam or anything like that. Both keep beer cold for at least 12-16 hours, and cool enough to still enjoy at 24+
One is flip top and the other is screw top. I think I prefer the flip top for ease of opening, but the size of the opening is larger on the screw top.
Or if you can put them in a cooler, I tend to like the Gulden Draak type swing tops for this sort of thing. That way you can take several small bottles of different styles and pull a new one out as the old one kicks.
Sticking beer in the middle of a table and watching it get warm and go flat makes me sad
Also this way if someone whose opinion I really respect shows up a bit later, I can pop a fresh one for them to try instead of letting them pull the last of my warm, flat beer and tell me what they think it would have tasted like 30 minutes earlier.
