Hop spider

Has anyone at the end of the brew pumped all the hop residue into a hop spider? I am not liking using them during the boil because I feel I’m losing hops. Thoughts?

I will never brew without mine I was hooked the 1st time I used it

If you are already using a pump, why not whirlpool? I get very little break material and nearly no hops in the fermenter after a nice whirlpool and rest.

+1 one of my favorite reasons to have a pump is whirlpool, other than cooling and not lifting. When you get to pitching temp, kill the pump and give it 15-20 min then rack to fermenter. Plenty clear

I have a plate chiller and can chill to pitching temp in one pass. That said, I’d rather not wait to whirlpool.

I have a spider but quit using it for the boil because I just like the hops being able to move throughout the boil. Plus, now that I quit using it I no longer have to clean it. :)  I gravity drain my Kettle after the boil: I run the wort thru a strainer to catch big chunks of break/hop material. It doesn’t catch it all but the strainer is an easier cleanup.

I do the above, and after i rack to a carboy i let rest for another hour and rack off of that. SUPER Clear! I loose another 3 qts, but i use this for starters.
