How much commercial beer do you buy? Poll

Er, uh, me too.  Yeah, that’s it, style research.  Might need to do some research tonight!

Speaking of commercial beer bills, I just stopped by the liquor store tonight on the way home to “just get a treat” for myself.  I walked out with 4 bombers. -.-

I snagged a bottle of Stone Vertical 10-10-10 for 5 bucks (!) an Avery Reverand, a Chimay blue and the only bottle of Sierra Nevada Ovila they had in the store. (I’d been looking for that one for a while, hadn’t had any luck)

Cracked the Chimay with dinner, will crack the Reverand tonight.  Saving the Ovila and the Vertical for later this week when my best man is in town from Philly.

I had only planned on buying 1 bomber to have with dinner.  I walked out spending $46.

Sometimes I think I’m out of control, but I love it so~

A lot. Only being in my third month of brewing, and still getting a bottle collection built up. Thanks for all the great info on the forum.

I probably buy a six-pack of IPA or something per week that goes into the fridge at work to wind down at the end of the day.  Sometimes I’ll pick up a growler or a larger bottle of something good for the weekend.
I like to buy calibration beers for the brew session, especially when I’m brewing a new recipe.

That’s a good tip.  It takes a bit of knowledge and training to be able to put it to use, but it’s a worthwhile target.

I’ll still buy styles that I can’t brew at home (lagers) with regularity.  Beyond that, it’s sixers of favorites or sixers for style research.  I’m slowly building a collection of Belgian bottles I’ll be able to put into rotation someday.

I don’t count, but . . .

10-12 6-packs roughly every other week.

Oh that’s all BJCP classic style for a course I’m teaching.

I’m in the same boat.  In the summer it’s usually a guilty 18 pack of PBR in cans.  When I go to the “big city” (I.E. Chicago/Minneapolis) I’ll end up buying quite a bit of beer, but it’s special stuff.

By the way, the only option missing from the poll is “No Pants.”

The more I think about it, lately most of the ‘commercial’ beer I buy is purchased/consumed at bars.

I’ve been trying to feqeuent some of Seattle’s more well-known ‘beer bars’ lately (Coopers Alehouse, Beveridge Place Pub, The Dog & Pony, Latona Pub, Brouwer’s Cafe, etc. etc.)

At home… none. Only my own. Now, since I spend half my life on the road, I do buy beer commercially, of course. It doubles as research for the home brewing.

The standard reply when SWMBO asks “How many have you had?”

“I don’t count them, I just drink them!”

+1.  The new case packaging of PBR tall boys is a winner, IMO.

This is where most of my beer purchases happen.

I maybe buy a 6 pack once every 2-3 months, I am more apt to buy the more obscure small batch singles, as well as certain belgian imports.
