Is there any difference between two-row malt and pale malt?

Rahr two row is the cheapest base malt around my parts but I’m always hesitant to buy it because I’m perplexed by the ph issue with it.

There is a local shop that sells shreier two row at roughly the same price. I don’t see a lot of info about shreier after about 2003. Is this stuff that bad? I get the impression it is pretty much on par with briess.

On the Rahr, even though it’s ~ 2L Martin said to enter it in Bru’nwater as 5L to account for the extra acidity. I like it especially on pale beers because it brings your pH closer to target even before adding acidity.

Interesting. I switched from GW to Rahr recently and I have been having to add a little more alkalinity than before, but I changed water at the same time so I had “chalked” it up to that.

I see what you did there. clever. I would contribute to the conversation but I have no “base” for comparison.

And in all reality, my opinion would “Pale” in comparison :o
