Lazy Kegging

Has anyone ever kegged straight into an empty keg without first cleaning and sanitizing it? I am a stickler for cleaning and sanitation, but the heat has me feeling me lazy lately.

I figured outside of flavors from the last beer, I didn’t think there would be any sanitation issues. Cheers and Happy 4th!

The only time I’ve done that was with a keg that just kicked.  I figured it was still sanitized and clean enough so I racked right into it.  No problem.

+1

I’ve actually done this twice in a row over the past couple months. If the beer is sanitary and the keg is sanitary my only concern would be sediment building up.

One of the guys at my LHBS has an unemployed 21 year old son who lives at home and goes through each keg pretty quick and does this.

Worded carefully, this could go on his resume.

“Maximized throughput by removing inefficiencies in packaging procedures.”

Kinda. On occasion I will rinse with tap water a freshly kicked keg, and rack confident that low temps will inhibit any problems. It works. Introduces a variable that some simple discipline prevents. YMMV.

I store my kegs full of starsan so I just dump and fill. Just tapped a new cream ale today…several pints in an feeling fine.
