Lid of Chest Freezer - CO2 lines

Need to re-orient my CO2 for my ‘conditioning’ chest freezer.  Any issues with drilling a couple of holes through the lid to feed the gas lines through?  I’m hoping I can find some rubber grommets/gaskets of the right size to make it snug.

Not interested in building a collar - only need to get gas lines through and can’t add anymore height due to space constraints.

Well, the lid comes off with hinges, so obviously no works in there to worry about like the walls.  I wonder if it’s solid foam core or fill that could be messy? I’d think at worst there’s some empty space to fill with expanding foam.

No problems drilling the lid. Obviously, stay well in from the edge so you don’t drill into the wall. Grommets are easily found.

thanks guys, looking at it last night, I’m also wondering if I would be better off notching the lid gasket instead?

Much better idea. Otherwise you have to take apart your hoses to pull them through the lid, if you want to use them for something else

That’s what has been stopping me from drilling. The gasket trick never occurred to me though, I might look at that. My tank takes up too much room inside…

I 3D printed a sleeve, although that was for my draft lines. What about a bulkhead fitting?

I’m thinking about doing something like this to add a gas post on the outside for a beer gun.

On mine the gasket alone would not be enough because the lid fits tight inside the chest. So I grabbed my sawsall and a sharp knife.

No more squeezing kegs in, or lifting the bottle out!

It’s an old little freezer. Sits in the shop. Hoping it dies some day so I can get another 14cft
