My 2 tier electric HERMS system

Here is my 25 gallon Electric / NG brewery…

I am running 3400w elements in the HLT and MT and natural gas under the boil pot, there are two spa timers for heating the HLT and MT at set times and they are both controlled by Love controllers.

I see you beat me to it.

Nice system ! What are your stainless kettles made from and how many gallons can you brew on it ?

If they’s the same as the ones we use on the club system - they’re stainless steel pool filters capable of holding a little over a barrel

How do you vent the boil kettle? Do you just take the lid off?

That is a fantastic looking system!  Where do you get the pool filters?

My pots are 30 gallons so I get about 23 gallons per batch. I called a few pool maintenance companies and a few had some laying around and a couple others gave me some when they came across them. I paid $40 for one and the rest I traded for beer.

My fermenters are also made from pool filters, I cut the top off of corny kegs, welded them to the pool filter lids and build longer dip tubes.

My wife has designated an oversize garage to become my brew house over at another home we bought last fall.

I had just converted to natural gas from LP, and went with a single tier system.

I am now wondering about a two tiered electric system for my new brewery.

Why did you go with both natural gas and electric?  I like the idea and may go LP/electric as well but am interested in your thoughts.

I’m using electricity in the MT and HLT because it is the easiest to automate, no need to worry about pilots, ignitors or thermocouples. When it turns on in the morning the elements keep the temperature until I’m ready to brew.

I went with NG under the boil pot because I had it available and it is easier to setup and control. It is so nice not having to deal with LP tanks anymore…

Why you did not go electric in BK?
