I am building a new brew cart. I am using (2) 10" BANJO Burners for the HLT and BK. The fitting on the end of the burner appears to be a 3/8" flare. I was planning to run a piece of 1/2" black pipe across the cart with a couple of valves. What is the best way to convert the 3/8" flare to 1/2" NPT? I need to take into account that these are high pressure burners; some of the fittings that I have looked at are not rated for high pressure. I would like to come out of the burner with an elbow if possible but I have not been able to find a 3/8" female flare elbow or much of any 3/8" female flare fittings at all.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or sources for fittings.
The issue you may be dealing with is that high pressure has different meanings in different contexts. 5 psi, the pressure of regulator for many high pressure propane regulators, is not considered high pressure generally.
I would say Nero has it about right. I would also add my usual advice on gas- if at all possible get a hold of a test rig and test it with compressed air before using it. Properly assembled gas systems are great- improperly assembled systems are bombs.
Make sure you use the yellow gas line thread tape, or a plumbing gas rated thread seal paste. I use a brand called pro dope. Sold at home depot, but your high pressure, is only high pressure for Propane, like 30 psi Max, but all your brass, copper black or galvanized fitting will be rated for 60psi or greater.
I’m sure he has already found a solution to it, as the post is 4 years old. Anyway, I find really difficult to work with gas. I can do some minor work, but I would never do such complex pipe installations and connections by myself. It’s way too dangerous, and I’m not a specialist in this area. Therefore, when I deal with gas issues, I always turn to goldcoastplumbingcompany.com.au, because only a fully qualified man can provide safe gas fitting services. Also, this team has unique fixed pricing and work extremely fast. So, if you ever need help in this area, I truly recommend you this company.
Hence why the person asked how it was solved. Did it ever occur to you they might have a similar question and also figured this person did in fact find a solution and are curious?
When resurrecting an old post it is best to check the info on the original poster to see if they are still active. This OP has not been active since generating the post.
