I’m considering “dry-hopping” with Advil though. I think adding Ibuprofen would negate some of the negative side-effects of too much homebrew.

Ethanol + ibuprofen is a no no.
Also, Acetaminophen and alcohol are a particularly bad combination and risks severe liver damage.
So you’re saying I need to keep drinking beer at night, Advil in the morning? Darn, wanted to kill two birds with one stone.
Tylenol and alcohol is very bad for your liver, but I thought Ibuprofen wasn’t too bad as long as you have something besides just alcohol in your stomach, IE food. However, I could be wrong.
even asprin is not great as it can increase the chances of stomach bleeding. But from what I have been told by doctors is that the tylenol/alchahol combo is THE ONE to avoid. Some people with tendencies towards liver problems have had deadly reactions even days after drinking after taking tylenol
As someone with a PhD in Pharmaceutics (not trying to be all uppity-hey-you-guys-listen-to-me-cause-I-have-a-degree-guy, but), I would recommend that any of us that are regular drinkers just refrain from Tylenol usage in general. It is a good anti-inflammatory but not that great as a pain reliever anyway.
The main problem is that chronic alcohol ingestion induces the enzyme that converts Tylenol to a reactive, liver damaging metabolite. So if you are a regular drinker, that enzyme will be present in a larger quantity and will therefore convert more of the Tylenol to the bad metabolite which can then have bad effects on your liver. As with everything toxicity depends on the dose and for the most part severe liver toxicity is seen after people have taken grams of Tylenol… but for what it is worth, I just refrain from using Tylenol in general as a regular drinker, especially since there are other drugs that work better.
Since becoming a homebrewer I completely cut out Acetaminophen and severely limit Ibuprofen. First pain-reliever of choice is Aspirin but that is also rarely used. Rarely get headaches anway- maybe once a year at most. The main problem is muscle ache etc… Regardless, I avoid if at all possible since my consumption is probably bad enough.
Ibuprofen really helped with my gout until I was able to fill a prescription for indomethacin. But then I had stopped drinking because of the gout.
I stopped taking acetaminophen a long time ago when given a prescription for tylenol with codeine in it. It made my ears ring.
About that time there was a joke, “Did you hear they found a cure for aids? — Tylenol” refering to the tylenol/cyanide tampering.
A question for you, then: Paracetemol == Ibuprofen?
I will occasionally take one generic equivalent Aleve (one a day for a couple days) every three-four months, and if I’ve got a bad headache I take paracetemol 500mg, but that’s also only about once every 4-6 weeks. I (heart) my liver and don’t want to hurt it, so what would you say in my case?
Personally, I think Ibuprofen far exceeds Acetaminophen as a pain reliever, but I’d still like to hear an expert’s advice on using it while, or soon after, drinking.
Paracetemol is acetaminophen, which is of course Tylenol. I would say at 500mg every once in a while you are fine, the majority of cases where people have liver toxicity are the ones that drink a ton and then take 8 of those. While I wouldn’t drink regularly and take a couple Tylenol everyday, that probably isn’t gonna even be that bad for you. Oh, and if you love your liver then you probably shouldn’t be poisoning it with alcohol 
The issue with Alcohol and Ibuprofen or Aleve is that by themselves the Ibuprofen and Aleve can irritate your stomach lining causing bleeding and ulcers, and alcohol can also cause irritation, so if you are susceptible to that, you could have some issues…
Again it is all a matter of how much of all of these things and how often and how sensitive the individual is. So it isn’t absolutely going to cause issues, but it is something one should be aware of.
I take 2 Advil, twice a year. If the headache is my own fault, no pills.
