O-ring loose on Barley Crusher?

I’ve got a new  Barley Crusher which I’m ready to use for the first time tomorrow.  It looks like the O-ring has come loose, because I see part of it between the two rollers at a slant. i.e. not perpendicular to the rollers.  The rollers turn freely, but I’d have to think this is a problem.

Any advice.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I know some folks that remove the o-ring completely.

The o-ring isn’t necessary.  I got my BC back after having it rebuilt and the o-ring broke in less than one bucket of grain.  Don’t sweat the o-ring.

The mill works great without it.  I’m not sure why they even put one on.

I guess it shows that the mill is working, both rollers turning?

Anyway, yeah, don’t sweat it when it breaks off. The grain takes its place when you’re actually milling.

Mine is still loose in there 2 years later. My crush is still just where I like it and my efficiencies are still right where I expect them to be, so I wouldn’t sweat it.

Lost the O-ring a few years ago. Crusher still works just fine.

Thanks again.  I was thinking about taking it apart, and now I glad to find out I don’t need to do that.

No need to remove the rubber O ring, if its like mine it’ll break after milling two or three batches of grain.
Just sent mine back to the manuf for some repair/replacement work. I’ve had it 5-6 years and it has stopped pulling the grain through the rollers. I appears that the knurling on the rollers has worn down and won’t grab the grain to pull it through.

I just sent mine back after 7 years of use for the same problem.  When I got mine back the rollers had been resurfaced and it works great again.

Paul, do you remember how long it took to get your mill back from BC?

Around 3 weeks from the time I shipped it until it was on its way back to me.

+1.  Lost my o-ring in the first couple batches.  No need for it.  They work great without it as the grain catches the knurls.

For those of you who sent yours back for repair did you need the original paperwork for it?

Paul, thanks!
Brewinhard, I just emailed Randy at Barley Crusher, told him the problem and he told me to return it for repair/replacement. No original paperwork needed.
Merry Christmas!

Cool.  I own two.  One is fairly new and works like a champ.  The other is about 8 years old and gave up grinding 1.5 yrs ago.  I will send the old one to be repaired this spring.  I just don’t want to be without a working grinder especially with competition season coming up.
