Oak Barrel

A local distillery is giving our Homebrew club a 55 gallon oak bourbon barrel. It is being emptied on Wednesday. How long will it stay hydrated? We plan to fill on Saturday

Easily that long.  A couple of weeks are no problem.  Be prepared to dump a quart or more of whiskey…unless you want the extra flavor and punch.

Depends on the distillery. A lot of them are rinsing and using that water blended in their cut water

Interesting.  I guess it makes sense, but kind of a bummer for the new-barrel owner 

Glad mine came with some gratis Rye Whiskey!
