This may very well be my favorite ‘session IPA’ up to this point. I really enjoy NB Slow Ride and FW Easy Jack as well. I don’t care for Stone’s Go To. I get a very nice tangerine and tropical fruit flavor with more balanced bitterness. Hop heads may not think it is bitter enough but I am starting to prefer IPAs with less bitterness and more hop flavor and aroma.

I am very curious to see what hops they use in this beer. I haven’t had anything with mandarina yet and wonder if it is in here. I can’t find any information regarding ingredients? Anyone have any info?

+1.  I don’t like overbearing bitterness either.  But it looks like they’re using 6-8 hops (one experimental), but dry hop it with Azacca, Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado. Lots of fruitiness there. I may try some.

Thanks for the link! I suppose at 4.9% and 35 IBUs, this is basically just a pale ale. Not sure what the term ‘throwback IPA’ is referring to…

I saw a couple of articles regarding the marijuana references on the can. One in particular gave the impression that it is supposed to taste/smell like marijuana so I was hesitant to try it. Luckily this is not the case…

+2, I really liked it as well. 
Good for them; still like the versatility of the can.

The marketing is silly, which is too bad.  I think “throwback” is supposed to refer to the fact that you can throw a few back — down your gullet—and still be able to row the boat.

I thought at first it would be some old British IPA ::slight_smile:

Ah good call. I was thinking of throwback as in old school…

I have never been a huge OB fan although I do like Dale’s and Mama’s. Good to have another one in the mix.

Yeah. I think a lot of brewers realized that it’s hard to add many hops to a 1.040 beer and have it be drinkable, so they just hop up an APA and call it a session IPA. Whatever.

Because “Session IPA’s” always seem taste watery to me, and APA’s don’t.

I just tried this tonight for the first time. I had a taster sampler at a local beer-centric restaurant, along with Hop Hunter, Otter Creek’s new IPL and Woodchuck’s hopped cider. Pinner was the winner for me, but all four were quite good. Each had a downside as well.

I love the hop character in Pinner. It was juicy and went down really easy. But I did find it to taste a bit watery, especially side-by-side with Hop Hunter and Citra Mantra. I don’t know if it’s more carbonated in cans, but I think my pour could have used a bit more fizz.
