Paulaner's brewpub/restaurant in NYC

I posted this on another forum, but thought I’d include it here as well.
Even though I live less than 30 miles from NYC, this place somehow fell off of my radar.

I haven’t had the chance to visit Paulaner’s new place yet, but it’s very high on my list for a visit in the next couple of weeks. The most interesting thing will be to see if these house-brewed Paulaner beers manage to capture a true Munich beer character.

In 25 years of visiting brewpubs nationwide, the ONLY one I’ve been in that really managed to nail a truly authentic German character in all of their beers was the late (and lamented) Zip City (on 18th St in NYC), which despite excellent beer and very good food managed to stay open for only about 6 years (maybe it was ahead of it’s time??)  A distant second perhaps goes to  a Gordon Biersch place I had lunch at outside of Burbank, CA around 14 years ago. They gad a VERY German tasting Dunkles that I really enjoyed.

Here’s an article about the new Paulaner place in New York

I wish I’d known about this three weeks ago.  I walked right around the corner from there on the way to Katz’s deli.  Next time for sure.

Ahhh…Katz’s.
Surely the very best pastrami to be had on the east coast.
(in Los Angeles, Langer’s get’s the nod from me)

Thanks for the tip. My office is only a few block away. I’m going there asap.

I’d love to try the Paulaner place.  I’ve been to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport,KY a couple times and enjoyed it immensely.  I’d like to compare the two.

Dang, a couple years back we stayed at a small hotel between Bowery and First on Houston. Paulaner would be an ok stop from there.

I am salivating at the thought of fresh Paulaner 'fest on tap without having to go to Germany. I’m pretty sure I could play hooky from work, take the Peter Pan there and be home before my son gets out of preschool…
