Looking online for some various kegging bits and I’ve noticed that almost everything involved has this prop. 65 warning involved with the various parts below. I am somewhat familiar with that, but can a Californian explain to a non- Californian what the heck is going on?
I feel bad for whomever had to toilet train you.
And I thought these forums excluded trolling :o
I dont know what prop 65 is. But if the context is fittings, then my guess would be that the types of fittings only acknowledge two genders and totally ignore the other 63.
Prop. 66 is the one I’m more concerned with…pretty sure I’m at 2 strikes on here by now…
Justin, I feel for you. I don’t know what it is either, but have not bothered to Google it. Hope it’s not important for myself here in indiana
It’s another another example of a well intentioned idea with the unintended side effect of being unrealistic, unmanageable and unverified. Basically, everything manufactured and/or sold in California causes cancer. In the rest of the world, the same items are considered safe.
Yeah JT, nearly everything in CA has that Prop 65 label on it. I liken it to going to the doctor, you always want a second opinion. I would buy the hardware, enjoy the tasty beverages and worry about the inevitable decline later.
I’ll wager the alcohol you’re making is far worse for you than anything you’re using to make it.
If you read the description of Prop 65 on cancer.org it clearly becomes obvious that manufacturers would likely slap that label on just about anything to avoid liability and litigation, which seems to be what’s happened in Cali. It is a noble government proposal with bad execution. Go figure.
It’s CYA. I bet manufactures could test their products to avoid having to label them.
There are times where it is necessary. My brother lived in an apartment building that was old enough to include lead paint on the exterior and asbestos insulation. Every entrance had a sign.
I once went to a loft that was a converted Dutch Boy paint factory. There was a sign at every entrance noting no persons under 16 years should inhabit.
Well, Dutch Boy paint was acquired by National Lead Company early last century.
Stone beers used to have a warning. Not for the beer, but they had to include it due to the paint on the outside of the bottles.
Just be thankful it is a sticker on everything rather than etched or cast into everything.
So tired of the “everything will kill you” attitude. What do we have to do, eat raw orgranic vegetables our entire lives in order to be “safe from harm”? It’s ridiculous, alarmist BS.
I’m sure even organic veggies in certain quantities are dangerous.
Mark Twain wrote a good piece on similar feelings back in 1871. Seems things don’t change much.
The list of chemicals that require a warning:

My best guess is that the keg contains anabolic steroids.
awesome- i hope mine got an extra dose
Not to go down the rabbit hole but I’m fairly certain it’s a smidgen of lead on the brass pieces of the couplers.
At least I’ve been warned in case I keel over midway through the first keg!
Could be the plastic contains a phthalate? Without knowing more, it seems that labeling products under Prop 65 that are clearly intended to be used for food service isn’t “kosher.”
If you’re using brass, I’m sure that is the case. According to Palmer, brass contains small amounts of lead for machineabilty reasons.
