Robo brew.

Has anybody used or purchased a Robo brew?  They look pretty well made and have good reviews. This may be my next purchase.

I just purchased one of these, my first brew day using one of these is tomorrow. I’ll post how it went.

Cool. Where did you get it?

I purchased mine from www.Williamsbrewing.com

I wonder how this compares to the Grainfather. I have never brewed with these types of systems but I considering it. Please let me know how the Robo Brew does and if you recommend it.

Just search Robobrew on you tube.
The new system with pump is equivalent to the grain father an half the cost. The only diffrent is the grain father
Comes with a counter flow chiller and the robobrew comes with a stainless steel immersion chiller.

How did your brew day go?

Sorry for taking so long…
The brew day went really well, I like having everything contained in one unit.
It held mash temps well, I will have to make a jacket for it though. Had a few degrees difference from top to bottom.
The included immersion cooler worked really well. Didn’t take long to cool just using kansas summer heat ground water…lol
I like the false bottom screen that it comes with, kept a lot of stuff out of the pump.
Only thing I would like to have had would have been a temp controller that wasn’t close to the floor. I’m 6’5", so it’s a pain adjusting temps.
But all in all I’m glad I purchased it.

Cool.
What was your mash efficiency?
Mash pH?
Did you need rice hulls?

Going off of beersmith, my mash efficiency was 73%, I was using a 14lb grain bill and there was plenty of room. And I didn’t have any need for rice hulls.
My mash ph was at 5.2.

As long as the liquid is a constant temp, the grain temp difference will be of minimal concern

Yea, I figured so. I am really pleased with it. And also like the delay timer, I just set it for morning time and the water was heated and ready.

Pretty cool man. The controller on the floor is a bit wonky and I think they missed he mark in not allowing step programming. Price is solid.

For the price i cannot really complain, it did what i needed it to. And I don’t want something that is fully automated. Would take some of the fun out of it.

Not saying fully automated, through I wouldn’t mind that.

Can you set it on a table to raise the controls?

That’s great.
Alot of reviews said rice hulls were a must, mash temp was low during recirculation and even some said there were slight problems with the finished work.
1500 watts enough to boil?

Oh. I was under the impression that you could step mash. What a bummer.
I recently watched some of The Beerery videos, it was cool to see the wort change from cloudy to crystal clear during the steps.

I didn’t have any issues with temps and sparging went fine. My hydrometer readings were not far off.
And I had no issues with the boil, I’m just going to make a reflectix jacket just to bring temps up quicker.
I also didn’t mind having to change the temp manually to step mash. so no big deal for me there.

You can still step mash, just not automated.
