San Diego-Pacific Beach

Hey I was wondering if anyone had any tips on places to go in San Diego. Last year I hit up white labs, Coronado, and Societe. I’m thinking about stopping by modern times, Ballast, and Pizza Port, any other ideas?

North Park Beer Co. at 3038 University Ave. has some great beers. Just a couple of blocks away is Mike Hess Brewing at 3812 Grim Avenue. There are a lot of neat places around 30th St. and University Ave. Good pubs and eateries.

Mission Brewing at 14th & L Sts. Just off of Imperial is good. Stone Brewing at Liberty Station is great too. Lots of good beer to be drunk in the San Diego Area.

Lost Abbey.  A little bit of a drive north in San Marcos.  (I have not been to The Confessional which looks like it might be a little closer.)

I like Green Flash.

if you’ve never been to the Escondido (home base) of Stone, while it is a drive, it is a sight to behold.

Pizza Port Ocean Beach.

Alesmith knocked my socks off.

Tiger Tiger, though not a brewery, has some great taps and really tasty food.

Toronado for an old school multitap.

Than you are near Fall brewing which was pretty good.

Too many good spots.  A couple more local favorites:

Monkey Paw downtown is great, they have guest beers and food.  OB Noodle House is not a brewery but has one of the best tap lists around and great food (get the wings).

I work in San Diego (just two blocks away from Green Flash) so I’m always trying to visit as many breweries as I can, when I can.

Just 3,000 ft. away from Port/Lost Abbey is Mason Aleworks in San Marcos which just opened up a few months ago and I liked everything they had on tap (which is rare). I feel that the brewers probably worked really hard to dial in the recipes just so.

While reviews on the customer service is mixed, I think it’s because they are still teething and will eventually sort things out. There’s also a full-blown restaurant and 8-lane bowling alley inside. Lots of free parking in the new parking garage.

One more thing, this is the site/magazine that we locals use to keep up on the SD Beer Scene…

Alesmith is definitely one to check out. The new taproom is really nice.

Green Flash’s brewery has a nice taproom as well with a good range of beers beyond their normal distribution.

One of the Pizza Ports would be a good choice, unless you’re heading north in which case you should hit the Port/Lost Abbey location and Stone in Escondido.

I guess I’m saying things everybody else has already said…

There are so many breweries in SD that you could pick a part of town and just roam the breweries in that area rather than stare at a lot of traffic.
