Sierra Nevada 2017 Oktoberfest

I just got a six of this brewed with Brauhaus Miltenberger packaged on 7/5. Great Malt complexity and the right amount of hops for a wonderful drinking experience. The crisp finish leaves you wanting more. I’m really digging these unique compilations every year.

Sounds great! Gonna pick some up this week. I like that it’s a different collaboration every year.

Picked up some today, packaged 7/18. It’s deep gold/orange, with nice malt depth and complexity. Terrific, lasting foam. The light but noticeable late hop character is excellent and (along with the fairly pale color)obviously puts it closer to festbier than marzen. This is a better beer than last year’s festbier IMO. It’s maltier and a tad more amber than last year’s, and honestly is sort of a combo festbier/marzen IMO. Who cares, it’s an excellent, very drinkable beer. I’ll be buying another 12 soon.

Edit for grammar.

Edit2 - I missed that it’s actually labeled as a festbier as well. I really like it.

Agreed.  i think this is the best of the 3 they have put out so far.  excellent beer.

I agree best yet, Paul. Pretty cool to look forward to a new collab beer next year.

Good to know. Will be picking some up soon for quality assurance.

I love it. It tastes great

I picked some up on Saturday.  Good stuff.

I like this year’s better than last (and I liked that one.)

Nice hops flavors. Easy drinking.

A couple of weeks ago Mrs R and I killed a 6 pack in one night. Good stuff. Different from last year, but so good.

Going there tomorrow woohoo!

Finally had some myself–went to a German restaurant the other day with a strong German beer selection, but my first choice was Sierra N.'s version and, I agree: great malt complexity.

I finally bought a six pack yesterday and I really enjoyed it

I had some last night. Is it a well made beer? Yes. Does it taste as it should? No. There was no lingering fresh malt character that is unmistakable of European beers, in fact I couldn’t taste any malt. It was hopped way to bitter to style as well. All in all it was a well brewed beer, but IMO it was a swing and a miss compared to the real deal.

Compared to a recent (fairly fresh) Wehenstephaner Festbier I consumed, I agree.

At my club’s recent O’fest party, one of my Master judge friends with at least a half dozen trips to Germany said that the beer was too bitter for style. I think it ‘might’ be a little bit too bitter, but not enough to knock it from style. I still say its a fine beer.

it is indeed bitter, but its a damned fine beer.  I bought some Weihenstephaner Festbier and Paulaner Marzen and Wiesn.  those are all different animals than the SN, and of course, excellent examples of their respective styles.  I enjoy the hell out of the SN one though, styles be damned, variety be celebrated.
