Seems every time I turn around, it’s something new! I recently kegged a Witbier and have been carbing it. Today, I tried using my picnic tap to draw a sample. But every time I’d try to put the liquid connection on, it would not seat and would pop off the dang collar if I pressed too hard, resulting in me chasing dang ball bearings everywhere! I even tried my keezer liquid and it would seat, but rather would push the dang top right out of the liquid connect and beer would go everywhere. These are new kegs and I even put keg lube on the seals. I FINALLY got the picnic connect to seat and drew a sample. It tastes great…BUT…now I can’t get the dang thing off! Seems like I’d have to break it off in pieces, as it is NOT budging. This sucks. I had to leave the picnic tap on and may end up serving that way at event until empty by placing in plastic can with ice and hooked up to Co2.
No matter how I finagled the connection, it would not seat on this keg, while others worked just fine. Could it be a seized up post or something?
They don’t look much different at a glance but beer and gas posts are actually different. This caused me some issues a while back.
The “Gas-In” Body Connect or Post — This is the part that the Gas-In Quick Disconnect fits on. This fitting is commonly identified by having either a star pattern and/or hash mark on the base. It usually takes a deep socket to remove these; typically they will be either 7/8" or 11/16".
The “Beverage-Out” Body Connect or Post — This is the part that the Beverage-Out Quick Disconnect fits on. This fitting will not have a star pattern or hash mark identifying it.
yep, sounds like you got your posts switched. happened to me when i started kegging. it’s a bitch to get that liquid qd off, but you can. i still have the scars on the one i got stuck. used a screwdriver for a lever if i recall correctly. never lost any ball bearings, though. that’s a new one to me…
If yes, it is the gas in post and that is what is causing the issue. As was said earlier, the gas in and liquid out post look very similar but are not exactly the same. Putting them on the wrong sides will always cause what you are seeing. We’ve all done it.
Yep, I did that on my first keg. connected the gas after forcing it and heard bubbles and was like hmmm…
The gas post will most always, or at least on mine and similar to the link above, will have notches on the nut portion and the liquid will be smooth. So after cleaning, you’ll know which post goes with the dip tube and which with the small gas tube.
I’m still mastering grey=gas/black=beer when buying additional fittings and putting them together.
I stripped down my first batch of kegs and cleaned them all at once. Fun times putting the posts back on. Some kegs were Cornelius. Some were Spartanburg. I had no idea that the gas and liquid were different posts nor that different kegs had different posts. But I learned quickly.
