Hey guys, So I am going brew a sweet stout this weekend and I want to try and use lactose (1lbs) and brown sugar (.50lbs). When would I add this to my boil? Is this to much lactose? And is there any do’s and do not’s of these ingredients? Thanks guys.
they just go in the boil. you can add them towards the end in you want.
is this a 5 gallon batch? if so .5lbs of brown sugar is going to disappear with no effect at all on the final flavor. if you want a brown sugar flavor try a couple ounces of molasses. non-sulfured.
+1. I use a lb of lactose in the boil for a 5 gallon batch, so that’s pretty spot on.
yea its for 5.50 gals, And I am trying to get like a subtle hint of the brown sugar, How many oz of molasses are we talkin? Thanks guy extremely helpfull.
Mort was right on it - 2 or 3 oz UNSULFURED molasses, no more. A little is great, too much is quickly too much.
Thanks guys, What time would you guys say about, 10 min left in the boil?
That’d work great. Good luck !
