What Color Is This?

We honestly don’t know, so seeking professional help!
What color is this German Lager, using the Richter Scale (SRM)? We were shooting for an Amber.
Here is the grain bill:
22 lbs Bohemian Pils
1 lb Cara Munich
1/2 lb Cara Red
10 gallon batch

It’s nearly impossible to tell from a photo unless your camera and our screens are color calibrated and the lighting is just right.

That’s a beautiful glass is beer!  I would guess it to be about an 7-8 SRM.  However, without knowing the exact color of each ingredient, it would be impossible to even guess with any degree of accuracy.  And, like denny said, camera, screen resolution all come into play.

I try to be descriptive with color, so to me that is a light copper or perhaps burnished gold.  But what color is it in that glass in person in the shade on your patio, I have no certainty.  I can say it is a delightfully clear beer with nice head.  I could say more, if I could taste it!  Cheers.

Based on the photos, which are very accurate for the color, what is the SRM number?

#9 (Pale Amber)
or
#8 (Deep Gold)

Or…none of the above!

Who knows?  How long is a piece of string?

Is it a burnished gold string or a light copper string?

SRM chart for what it is worth:

What did the bel air lab tech say?

2pir exactly. r depends on the radius of circle the string fits around.

Suzy Q. (Asian Persuasion) has not returned the lab results. A bit disappointed as she is usually very prompt. Hence we are seeking the expert advice from the regulars on this forum (and you know who you are).

Yes, we looked at the SRM chart also. But Suzy has a good eye for color, as long as it’s outside of the market, which was recently shut down…dang it!

Wait…results just back in now, SARS-Cv-2 Yellow. Now need to correlate that with the SRM chart.

Suzy tried to tell me “Wuhan Gold”, but told her that would not fly at Bel Air Brewing.

She said the other option for classification was “Gaijin Gold”.

To me it looks too dark.

Doesn’t look Amber to me. Why does it matter if you weren’t going for a particular style? Do you have a software estimate? Looks like 6-7 Srm to me.

What do the shareholders think?

I’d give it about an 8.

You’re supposed to be the professional brewer. Why don’t you tell us?

;D

Yeah, I expected this thread to start crumbling.  ::slight_smile:

Since no one here can figure it out…and I made it so easy for you, the answer is #6, Deep Gold. That’s on the SRM scale.

Yes, Bel Air Brewing is staffed with pros. Not so sure about Suzy Q., however. Our lab tech has let us down, very unusual for an Asian Gal.

Not surprised. A serious question to help us learn about color. And it went wheels off right from the get go.
