Who are you? Where am I? WTF?

Hey y’all,

I’ve been using the forum for a while now.Though I miss TechTalk (and look forward to V2), I really like the forum. It’s a great community but, like many online forums, most everyone goes by email handles. I’d much prefer to get to know y’all better and names are a part of that.

For many years, Jeff Renner would post annualy (first of HBD & then on TechTalk) asking people to post where they were located as well as their names. Sometimes it helps give a better answer to posts (water issues, local supplies & beer resources, etc). This even resulted in folks posting their Rennerian coordinates - Jeff R being called the center of the homebrewing Universe.

I’d love to see more people include their names & locations in their profiles &/or signatures. I feel like I probably know a number of you by name, but not by your online handle. It would certainly help for all of us to get to know each other better & build our sense of community. Just sayin’

Are there any buckeye in the Rocky Mountains?

Im not posting my name and location, some of the people on here are CRAZY!. And they are capable of traveling.

Can’t - Witness Relocation Program Rules.
I’m even typing this from a virtual terminal in a different state from where I really am so I can’t be traced.

Aloha Mark!
I had more than a few good times with the Hogtown Brewers in Gainesville in the early 90s.  I took my Certified level BJCP exam there, proctored by Herr Papazian  (He proctored my Recognized level exam in Orlando a year earlier too).  I still wear a Hogtown Brewers sweatshirt when it gets chilly here.

I am a bit reluctant to use my name because of search engines… Carl.
I enjoy being able… Saxer to joke around and not have to worry about something I said in jest on a forum 20 years ago coming back to bite me.

I used to sign my posts with,
Way Down By Orlando (taken from the Orlando TV station WDBO)

Then my wife and I came to Hawaii on our honeymoon in 1997.  We returned 21 more times in the next eight years and I changed my signature to:
Way Down By Orlando and Often Hilo.

The 22nd trip to Hawaii was the much anticipated one-way ticket in January of 2005.  Now we live about 12 miles south of Hilo in the Puna District.

The people who live out here have a reputation for being…   excentric, and are often refered to as punatics (you better be smiling when you call me that)

With aloha,

ps You can call me anything you like - just don’t call me late for dinner!

Nope. Not a one. I like it though, cause I moved to the Rocky Mountains, from The Buckeye State.

Using Google Earth and your coordinates it appears you are in the entrance to a parking lot at a school in Pennsylvania.

Why would he give the correct coordinates if he’s worried about crazy people traveling to find him…

Hey weaze, if you are in the Rocky Mountains then there is at least one  Buckeye there, right? Waka Waka Waka.

I figure I would use the parking lot near my house that if any crazies come after me I can pick them off one by one before they ever get out of their rental car.

I always assumed that was your shop… It was on the PA side of the river last time I checked it.

There are malicious people out there on on the web. Yes- even homebrewers. Thusly, I’m extremely wary of personal info and very selective in who gets it.

However, I can say my location is in the Southern United States.

Our Predator drones are zeroing in on your signal…

Hey,
thanks to all who came out of ‘lurk’ mode to reveal their names ;), and thanks to those that didn’t as well. may be naive of me, but I figure wearing my tinfoil hat will protect me from most of the predators

anyway, think about adding your name to your sig, but if not, boeuf.

Hey, I had no idea that was you!  Nicely kept secret.  Good to know I can put a name with a face now.

My shop is in a section of Philly known as K and A. Im not really worried about stalkers coming after me there. Most outsiders wont survive but for three or maybe four blocks.

I used to be a little bit concerned but since my name has been in four newspapers lately and articles coming out in “Draft” magazine and “Southern Brews” news soon enough (if not already) I just don’t worry about it any more. Plus, I’d like to meet the stalker who would brave my drive way or find my house. I live so far out even I have trouble finding my way home sometimes.  ;)

Gee whiz Jeff, you didn’ recognize me from my avatar?  I’m told if you imagine it wearing a tin foil hat it is a very good likeness of me.

Here’s another likeness of me (that’s John Cheek on the left).

Mark…I’m a mere 200 or so miles NNE of you, in Savannah, GA.
I hope this upcoming year will see me able to attend/enter/judge in comps in North Florida (Hogtown Brewoff, First Coast Cup)…so perhaps I’ll meet some of the Florida folks face-to-face. I’m looking to expand my judging experience, as I’ve only judged in our local comps. (and I need points to make National  :))
I’ve been a homebrewer since 1993, and a member of my local club since it started that same year, but only recently joined the AHA and started looking to have more involvement with the regional, national, and dare I say international, homebrew community.

So far this forum has been a bunch of ‘odd and quirky’ guys…and gals…mixed with some solid knowledge and advice…so I guess you could say “I Love This Place!”

I have search engine paranoia, too. Mine is for clear and present reasons.

Besides, unlike some of the heavy hitters on here, I’ve done nothing of particular note in the brewing community. Knowing my name won’t tell you anything about me you didn’t already know.
