It’s a Locust tree. Not sure of the specific variety though. The Honey Locust is the most common variety and the fruit of it can, and has been used for brewing. Make sure that if you wish to experiment that it is not Black Locust because that variety is toxic.
Call me crazy, but that doesn’t look like a honey locust tree to me. The leaves are too big, and I don’t see the thorns you’d expect on a locust tree.
That said, I’m just looking at pics and reading descriptions, I have no experience at all with these trees so you may be totally right.

There are varieties of Honey locust without the thorns.
I have honey locust in my back yard and based on the pictures, that could be what you have too. You’re leaflets look a bit bigger than mine but that could be from the different conditions in your area. My trees do have spines but they aren’t really that apparent on the mature trees, more obvious on the numerous seedlings that they throw up each year. Does your tree have clusters of white flowers each spring? Mine do which I’m sure is where the honey locust name comes from. The bees love these flowers.
Actually, it comes from the nectar inside the immature seed pods.

No flowers on that tree, no thorns either. The leaves are about as big as the end part of my thumb. Ill take some more pics.
If it is a locust is that hard wood, Ill have to see if I can smoke with it. Never heard of anyone smoking with Locust.
Locust is a hardwood. A few of the sites I looked at seemed to be of the opinion that it doesn’t produce enough smoke to be useful for smoking, although I did see one forum where someone said they used it. I didn’t find anything about smoking with Black Locust, so I don’t know if it has the same toxins as the seed pods. You may need to do a lot more checking before using it for more than heating.
It definitely looks like some good firewood. Hope you have a mechanical splitter of some kind. .
I cut honey locust into lumber and it was stupidly hard. You can’t really do anything with it, even power tools had a tough time with it.
Despite it’s hardness, I saw some examples of some very nice items crafted out of Locust wood such as bowls, plates, and furniture.
