Totally unnecessary. Just use a long spoon to get the liquid column spinning.
No benefit in an Anvil or similar home system for 6gal or less batch size. Use a spoon like brewdood said. (Useful only in larger/pro systems.)
Agree with the above. I bought one only to find out the stock pump that comes with the AIO is not strong enough to move the wort. For now it’s a wall decoration. Eventually, when I get a new pump I’ll get a more powerful one so I can use it. Not that it’s needed, but only because I bought it and feel I have to use it.
The only possible use case is for post boil whirl-pooling which can help leave much of the trub in the kettle. However, if the Anvil is like my Brewzilla, there is a bottom screen above the centered drain meaning that even if a trub cone forms, it goes down the drain and into your fermenter at the same rate as if it weren’t whirlpooled. I vote with the majority here and say it is not necessary.
