Yeah, yeah - that was the one I couldn’t put my finger on ! Rat Cellar (or Rat’s whatever). Damn I’m getting old.
Was anyone else terrified of the brew day pic: boil kettle on jet burner, jet burner set on top of an inverted boil kettle? Made me shudder!
I concur with your diagnosis, doctor.
And, yeah, I wouldn’t recommend stacking the burner and kettle like that. Worked once. But all you need is for it to fail once.
RatChat…first beer discussion forum that I can recall.
I was strangely impressed to see Skotrat post here every now and then. I was like “that’s the dude with the recipes!”
I’m chalking it up to nostalgia and telling myself I’m not creepy.
I think Scott would understand…
The pot the burner was on was not a brew pot. It is a solid stainless steel, very heavy, very expensive, pot that we cook large amounts of soup or lamb-curry in. It was far better and much more stable than the Outdoor aluminum BBQ table I have. It is also very impervious to heat. It’s not ideal, but it worked perfectly. I also had a full-size fire extinguisher at hand ready if need be… just in case.
I wish I had a bigger house with a backyard and an off-house man cave with a workshop. THen I could do it right. … one day. ![]()
Then you’d need a fully automated brew sculpture and a conical with a glycol jacket. Brewing equipment is like Great Stuff. It expands to fill the available space.
