You’re in luck. HBO and Cinemax are having a free preview this weekend. Been loading up my DVR with movies I haven’t seen yet. Looking forward to seeing Robin Hood. Pee Wee Herman on Broadway looks pretty cool too.
Which is why I don’t blindly listen to all critics. I find a few who, through experience, I fond look for the same things as I do so I know I can probably trust what they have to say. Then I usually check it out myself just to be sure if I agree with them or not. In the case of this show, I decided to check it out and see what I thought. Unfortunately, I fell asleep before it started. Was it any good?
I haven’t read the books yet, but the wife is somewhere in the middle of book 2 and has been looking forward to the series for months now - she enjoyed episode 1. I liked it too (I had no real expectations, I was just happy that there was a new fantasy type series) - my biggest beef was that the fake snow looked like fake snow on a sound stage.
I should really re-read the first four books before the new one comes out this summer. It’s been so long that I only remember bits and pieces of the (rather complex but totally excellent) storyline.
I watched all three (mostly- was brewing and making tamales) and was somewhat underwhelmed. Knowing the story there was little frame of reference or initial plot development to establish a setting. The books do a good job of this. I’m sure people new to the story are baffled. Keep watching…
Otherwise, I think it’s an ambitious undertaking. HBO has been up to the task with other excellent series such as Deadwood.
Was going to bed but saw this and had to comment. A song of ice and fire is one of my favorite series. I’m expecting big things in a Dance with Dragons which is finally being released in July. Anyway, I finally got the chance to watch this tonight and I was impressed. I thought they did a good job in translating from the book to the screen. While they may never be able to capture EVERYTHING the book did, it’s really cool to see it come to life. George Martin has even said it will be a little different. Since he is one of the executive producers I don’t think they’ll skip out on any of the really good stuff. In my opinion, they have a great cast. Sean Bean is a great actor, and they have a few well knowns, but I think the newcomers and the not-so-household names will steal the show. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series. And oh yea, lots of boobage.
Good. It’s a fleshy long complicated story. I hope they do it justice. My friend agreed that it was easier to follow since he had read the books already. He also said so far they’ve followed the story faithfully.
I watched the pilot episode and decided I had better read the series first (incidentally, I thought the pilot episode was great). I’m about 2/3 of the way through the first book and I can’t put it down. I’m hoping the books are consistently as good as GOT because I think it’s probably the best fantasy book I’ve read other than LOTR. The characters are really well drawn and the story is very intriguing.
