Not sure why the word Bock is on the can. Kind of confusing.
ZiegenBock was AB’s answer to Shiner Bock in the 90’s. Shiner Bock was all college kids drank in TX in my day.
I guess they have kept the brand.
Nothing confusing Jon, just a straight forward authentic Texan Bock Kolsch. You can tell by the word “Ziegen” and the map of Texas.
Gotcha. Wonder if they’ll sell a good Dortmunder porter, too. 
AB has tried to minimize any obvious tie in to ZigenBock for as long as I can remember. Shiner is a decent Amber colored light lager with a hint of flavor, but it’s not really a Bock either.
I’ve never found an origin story for ZigenBock. I always just figured the marketing folks at AB just couldn’t stand it in the 90’s because somebody was beating them at something 
I’ll have to try this just out of curiosity. Of course if you want a known good Kolsch that’s also brewed in Houston try Karbach Love Street.
Because they want to tie it to Texas and that’s the brand they own there (“For Texans, By Texans” or something like that). ZiegenBock is the ‘brewery’. I guess technically they could have called it ZiegenKolsch, but that may have created some additional confusion.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had Ziegenbock but I’ll admit to having drank more than a few in my younger days. It’s pretty much Shiner Bock.
My guess on the name is that they have Ziegenbock licensed as the brewery so it was easier to keep that name for the kolsch than pay to register another brewery name. I could be wrong.

When we first moved to Dallas, Zigenbock was the standard offering at festival type events. That and bud light. Selection certainly changed by the time we left.
