It appears that I accidentally did a sour mash with some dark grains in an extract stout while cold steeping.
Will my glass carboy, plastic hose, and bottling bucket be okay to use without souring my next batch? I used Craftmeister alkaline brewery wash and star san immediately after bottling.
Did you boil or heat the wort from your dark grains to or above 170F? EDIT: If you did, you have nothing to be concerned about.
I let a pound of dark grains steep overnight in a quart of water at room temperature. I did heat the liquid up to boiling for a moment, but still ended up with a slight sourness in the batch of stout. My concern is whether it will affect my next batch using the same equipment.
You don’t need to be concerned about any equipment contacted by boiled wort.
Good, I have a brown ale that needs to be brewed soon.
Just as soon as I feel a bit more recovered from a nasty bite from an “emotional comfort support service animal”: a pitbull.
I’ve run into another issue. The head on this beer disappears almost instantly and it has almost no carbonation.
