Alternative to Hops Experience

Has anyone used an alternative to hops in their beer recipe?  What did you try and how did it come out?

Here are three articles I found on alternatives:

Juniper

Spruce

Heather/Jasmine-Hibiscus

Just curious if anyone has tried something like this?

I am currently fermenting a farmhouse with Juniper but I added a small addition of hops as well. Am going to double the juniper and nix hops next farmhouse.

Awesome.  Would love to hear back how it came out.

Here’s a Last Drop that you might find helpful.

I love sweet gale, aka bog myrtle.

Yarrow is not my favorite.

Currant leaves didn’t do anything for me.

Neither do heather tips.

Juniper is okay in moderation.

Haven’t tasted a great spruce beer yet.  It’s been a while since I tasted one.

Thanks

Had a great NW spruce beer last year at the local festival in Oregon City.

Which brewery?  I had one from Wolf Tree in Seal Rock that was great, but it still used hops.

That’s the one. The spruce tips really shined but you’re correct they used a small amount of hops as well. Tasted like the forest in a great way.

Sweet, I am hoping I can track that one down and try it…
