Anyone know where I can score ~ 400 lbs of organic cherries?

I’m guessing the answer is no but it can’t hurt to ask.

Scheduling my Pro-Am pre day with Thirsty Bear in SF and my recipe calls for ~1 lb per gallon of organic cherries.

I brewed the original batch in the spring and added cherries in early summer.

Id start calling local cherry farms and see if they freeze any of their stock. A quick google gave me
http://www.yelp.com/biz/enos-family-farms-brentwood-3 in CA, not sure if its close tho

Ive looked at a bunch of the potential farms fromt eh google links and i dont think many will have fresh stock, you need to either find fresh frozen or buy dried and rehydrate.  either way it may cost you a small fortune:)  another possibility is using cherry puree, ive never used it but its readily avialable year round.

Good luck!
Jeff

Thanks,

I’ll check them out. I know I will not find fresh fruit. totally the wrong season and I don’t want to buy from quite that far away if I can help it.

I’m sure we will work something out. Oregon puree if need be. Luckily I don’t have to pay for them!

Just up the road…in August!! ::slight_smile:

What about that organic concentrate schtuff?

that’s on the list for sure. I’d like to get American grown stuff and it seems like a lot of the concentrate is Turkish or Iranian (nothing against those places inherently, just like to keep it as local as possible) but if it comes down to it…

I am thinking of re-brewing this beer myself again when cherry season rolls around, then it will be fresh organic local cherries the whole way.

When I don’t use Oregon cherry puree, I love this tart cherry concentrate from Michigan (aka cherry Heaven) :

It’s not organic, but is high quality and they deal in bulk.

I know you look for organic ingredients, Mort.  Just throwing it out as a good last resort, or something other people could use.

I appreciate it. I’ve not found anything organic yet so it might have to do. I’ve still got about three weeks to find it.

Well, it’s not organic but if you really want some puree here is the Oregon puree wholesale website. I’ve used it and it almost tastes organic. :stuck_out_tongue:

Very cool.  I forgot if I asked already…do you use tart (pie) cherries or sweet cherries?

I used sweet cherries last time because that is what’s available here in sunny california. I think I’ll use pie cherries next time to see the difference.

I think I put the recipe in the wiki but if I didn’t I will once my pc is fixed
