Anyone Watch 'Brew Masters' Last Night?

What did you think?

I was entertained.  Mostly by the process they went through to get the beer out in that timeline and the info about the brewery itself.  It’ll be interesting to see they can keep it fresh and novel as the series continues.  If it just ends up as Sam flying around and sourcing wacky ingredients it might get old after awhile.  But I’ll be back for a second episode.

I enjoyed it and will be back for another episode.  I agree it might get a little old if it continues to just be Sam trotting around the globe, but it could still be informative.

It came on at 11 PM here so I didn’t see it.  Hopefully they’ll show it again earlier in the evening.

I taped it.

Hopefully I’ll have time to watch it tonight.

It was entertaining. DFH looks like it would be an awesome environment in which to work! I love Sam’s old rusty Dodge pickup. Especially enjoyed it when he tossed the inaugural 1/4 bbl keg of Bi+ches Brew into the bed on an old pile of rotting leaves to take to DC!

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on the show format. Globe hopping for wacky ingredients is fine IF they include a fair amount of the local culture in the story. I find it fascinating to see the diversity on our planet.

I enjoyed the show.  It was a bit more than I had expected from the trailers, but it still seemed like a full hour ad for DFH, sort of like an entertaining infomercial…

It does seem like a nice place to work.

People still use tape?

Got my season pass set on Tivo.  Couldn’t watch last night because I was watching the Pats game that I Tivo’d from earlier in the day…too stressed out to watch anything else after that.

Watched.  Particularly enjoyed it when Elaina’s cake fell apart. . .  ???

Wait.  That was the wrong show.

It was nothing like I expected.  The ad showed him walking through the desert, into a Moroccan market to sniff spices like Jim Koch sniffs hops. Instead, he explored the wilds of Rehobath.  I expected a history of beer, and instead got “Ace of Cakes.”  It was fun, I’ll probably watch it again.

I meant to say “recorded it on DVR”.  :D

I’m still using an old VHS machine…

It seems dumb to mix a mead with a stout. The honey would be overpowered by roasted malt. Then he adds crystal to fool people into thinking they taste the honey.  ::slight_smile:

I liked it and will keep watching it.  I’m hoping some other brewers get involved, but it’s fine with me if it’s DFH focused.  You never know, it might get more people interested in craft beer, and that’s good.

Have you tried the beer?  I liked it.

Sam is all about extreme brewing…“Brewing out of the box” or the inverse of a style nazi.

I admire his creative spirit and his drive to experiment with different ingredients. I’ll always try something new once.  I like to keep an open mind when it comes to beer tasting.

I haven’t seen the episode yet but am anxious to watch it.

I didn’t realize it was going to be a reality show about DFH, but there was some interesting information presented. I like learning about the commercial brewing process; I’ll keep watching.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the mock rap video. Did anyone notice the scene where Sam and the head brewer were taking a jacuzzi in the mash tun from their brewpub system?

Denny…if you’re interested in going even more retro, I have a functional Sony Beta VCR I might sell ya…
I only have 20 or so beta tapes, and the only full-length movie I have on beta is a recording of Fritz the Cat…but the machine runs great!

I did not get to see Brew Masters…I have limited basic cable, and don’t get that channel

I’m not retro by choice, believe me!

Thanks for the link - Discovery Canada is not carrying it (& probably won’t for a year or two).

I thought it was great. And thank goodness for DVR. The Walking Dead is on AMC at the same time.

As far as Brew Masters, I think it really showed why DFH has been successful. Sam is a helluva salesman. It looks like in the next episode or two, they’re going to show them making the beer made with saliva. Should be interesting. My wife was into it too, (probably thinks Sam is good looking or whatever) and she was asking all sorts of questions about the process and also looking up Bitch’s Brew on her phone during a commercial to see if it was available in TX. Sadly, it’s not.
