I usrd Apex London yeast this morning for the first time in 3.3 gallons of ESB at 1.049.
thanks, looking forward to data points on it, as its available in my area.
Would be to see how it compares to other London yeasts
Burping through the airlock every 15 seconds 22 hours after pitching.
Bump - but how did it turn out?
Clarity/flavour?
I used it in a chocolate cherry stout. Turned out well. Clear, not cloudy. Finished ruby red color youd expect from a stout. Good all round drinkable beer. Had a lot of success with their San Diego yeast as well. Both are solid performers
hi, bump again @steve_ruch just wondering how it was. @goose indicated he is trying apex san diego, and i wonder about both of them
I used it in an ESB a while ago. 1.049-1.013 fermented in the upper 60s. It turned out good.
I have used Apex London yeast in an Imperial Stout and the beer came out very good. Apex says it is similar to S-04 and I didn’t taste any discernable difference between the two. Since I have most of a brick left, I plan on using that in my porters and stouts. We used it in a Belgian quad a while back at a brewery where we made the beer after I won a gold medal with it at a competition. Although Apex says it is good for Belgian style beers, I am not sure I would use it again in that style. The beer was good but IMHO I like the flavor characteristics of 1214 a bit better.
As far as the San Diego yeast, it is currently fermenting my wet hopped IPA. I have tasted it when taking a gravity reading and it seems to be similar to 1056 but it did throw off a bit more sulfur when fermenting. I will let you all know when it is done and conditioned although the hop character might cover up any subtle notes from the yeast. Apex claims it is similar to 1056.
thank you, i appreciate the detail.
