Barley wine too old?

I did a barley wine back in 2008. I would sample a glass or two every few months. It was really good for a time but now it seems like the good times have passed. It has what I would call a sherry taste to it. I like a little bit of that but I think the flavor now is way over powering now.
What is the longest you have kept a barley wine? This batch is in a keg and I don’t know what to do with what is left. I remember reading that you can blend multiple years of barley wine. But I don’t have any examples to go off of.
So fellow brewers, what do you recommend? I am open to anything.

I have bottles of 2001 Thomas Hardy that are still in amazing condition. But it really does taste more like sherry than a beer at that point. I guess it’s a matter of taste.

you could experiment with blending for sure. or you could cook with it.

or you could bottle it and send it to me. I love me a good aged barley wine.

You may be in luck. I am going to be in Napa and Moraga CA soon. I may fill up a couple of bottles for you.

This may not be an immediate solution to your problem but it may be a future tactic you can use. I brew one-five gallon batch of barley wine every year and let it age in a keg in my basement for about 6-9 months then bottle condition. It’s nice to have  a “portfolio” of BWs to go back to. I recently enjoyed a bottle from 2006 that was splendid and I still have 3 or 4 left. To be honest, I really have to be in the mood to drink one and when I am - it’s fantastic. But I don’t sweat it if they get past their prime since they are in bottles and not in kegs. I can choose to pour them out or choose to hold on or give them away.
