Does anyone have any thoughts about what I might do with 15 pounds of blueberries?
Make 5 gallons of mead. 12 lbs of honey, 15 lb of blueberries, sounds like a good recipe
If you want a strong blueberry flavor, do a three gallon batch, 5 pounds in primary and 10 pounds in secondary.
I made an oatmeal stout with 6 lbs of fresh blueberries last year. I threw them into secondary for 3 weeks. It’s a very subtle flavor at that quantity, especially in a stout. I think if the flavor was any more pronounced though, it wouldn’t have been as good. There was just a hint of berry tartness. Any more and I think it would have clashed with the roastiness.
I made Blueberry wine with 15 lbs in August for the first time. I just bottled it a few weeks ago and it tasted very good. Thanks Mark for beer advice with bluberries. I might try some in the secondary because I still have around 3-5 lbs in the freezer.
The mead is an excellent suggestion.
I would save enough of those to the side for a blueberry pie.
There is a gallon of blueberry honey in the basement that has to be processed into mead. I need to get around to that.
What was your recipe for blueberry wine?
I’ve done a blueberry mead, yum!
I haven’t done a blueberry stout but I have done a cranberry stout which was pretty good.
