bottling from keg

I am planning to enter a beer in a comp but I have never bottled off of a keg. My plan is to use a faucet to tube adapter with a bottling wand. Should I turn off the CO2? Purge the CO2 first? Purge then put CO2 at low PSI setting?

I use a drilled stopper that fits a bottle mouth. the bottling wand goes through there to create a counter pressure filler. I remove the gravity valve from the wand because it adds disturbance which causes foaming. turn the co2 off and bleed most of the pressure off the keg to reduce foaming. get everything as cold as you can.

I have decent luck with about 3psi pushing. I keep my bottles in ice cold sanitizer. I will with a cobra that has a straight chunk of tubing. I set that in the sanitizer between filling. Drain bottle, purge, fill till overflow (no foam) then cap. My filler goes clear to the bottom like a bottle wand so when you pull it out it leaves head space. When all done I store cold.

I have a spring loaded tip bottle wand attached to the end of a length of hose with a ball lock QD on the other end. 2-3 PSI works.

If you have two tanks, or a splitter on your line, you can purge the bottles in a similar fashion to how you are filling them.

I use a pneumatic air gun (is that redundant?) with a hose on the end to get the CO2 to the bottom of the bottle.  Purge, fill, cap.

It’s helpful to have an assistant, if you can work that out.

EDIT:  I would also recommend turning up the CO2 pressure on the keg for a day or so.  Overcarbed when you are bottling is OK since you will lose some CO2 in the process.
