So I will be spending a night or two in boulder in Late july. What are the top one or two places I can get some exciting local brew and decent food (Something vegetarian)
Avery Brewery’s tasting room is NOT to be missed. I was there last fall and they had eighteen beers on tap. All Avery and quite excellent. Hard to find but worth the effort.
Of course I was being facetious. Boulder is probably one of the most vegan friendly places I’ve ever been.
You should stop in and see the AHA HQ. Maybe Janis can recommend a few places.
The tempeh rueben at Southern Sun rocks! Oh, the beer’s not too bad either, especially if you stick to the nitros. Besides the Chop House, anywhere is good for vegetarians.
Is Juanitas closed yet? I’m drooling thinking about their veggie tamales.
Spend more than a night or two. I lived there 6 years and still miss it.
I lived there in the late 70s and early 80s. From what I understand, it is nothing like it used to be. Probably couldn’t afford to live there now. I’m guessing it went from MNO (mellow and organic) to upscale MNO ;) It was a very cool place to be.
So it is worth hitting both the original Mtn Sun (16th & Pearl) and the Southern Sun (Table Mesa), slightly different beers on tap. Avery tap room is a must hit as well. Boulder Brewery is always nice, especially during a nice afternoon on the patio. A few new shops are in town, Upslope in Northern Boulder and Asher Brewing in Niwot. Asher is all organic and they make really good beer. If looking for a great tap room, try Backcountry Pizza and Tap Room (Folsom & Arapahoe), they have around 50 beers on tap, all good stuff. West End Tavern has been sporting a great tap list as well. Nice views from the roof, but they aren’t what they used to be. The Kitchen and Salt are nicer restaurants that have good beer lists, Salt lives up to it’s name, you will need to drink more. There are a lot of other good places in and around town, these are the top of mind.
If you like mead, Redstone Meadery is worth a stop. I’ll second Avery and Mountain Sun too, although Avery’s tasting room wasn’t open when I was there the beers are great.
Looks like I have some research and hard choices ahead. I am going for work and will be busy during the day so it’s gonna be where I go for dinner friday night and saturday night. Maybe I can get an earlier flight on friday and get there in tiem for some lunch too. That would mean three places! The meadery is intriguing. I love mead when it is good. Stopping at AHA wouild be fun to but we will ahve to see how the timeing works out.
