brew bag question

Hey all,

I received my brew bag to fit my coleman cooler. Stupid question I guess but my understanding is I do the all grain brew just same but instead of manifold at bottom of cooler I am going to use this bag for the mash and sparge?

Thx

Mike

Yep, that’s it.

Thanks
Lastly, still important to not disturb bottom of grain bed when adding sparge?

thx

I’m a batch sparger, so I actually stir the grain after adding all the sparge water at once.  But if you fly sparge, then yeah, I assume you don’t want to disturb the bed.

If you’re using a round cooler, I recommend getting one of the perforated false bottom kits to go with the bag. If you have a rectangular cooler then never mind.

yes, it is the rectangular. Thanks Denny and visor

I have my own miller now. Since now using this very mesh net, any idea what I can mill down to? .030?

You’re just gonna have to experiment.  What works for someone else may or may not work for you.  I have no idea what my mill is set to.  I only know that it works well, I don’t get stuck runoffs, and I get great efficiency.

I lift the bag and let it drain completely by placing it on a colander straddled across the sides of the cooler. Because of this, I don’t think there’s any such thing as too fine a grind when using the bag.

Once completely drained, I place it back in the cooler and batch sparge. …then do it again.

Using the bag, I use less water and less grain due to my efficiency.
