Brewhouse sanitation......

Or, the mother of all science experiments.

On the 22nd I brewed a double batch (20G’s) Got a late start and ended late. Since I had to go to work in the morning (early) I had to quit and clean up later. I left grain in the mash tun, iodophor in a bucket, and a half gallon of trub in the BK.

Problem is, I was gone for 5 days (Mexico, Florida, California and points in between). Oh, it’s 85 degrees in the brew house…

Well… let’s just say it’s interesting. Didn’t want to leave evidence for posterity, so no pictures. Lets just say there’s no more bleach in the laundry room… ::slight_smile: And yes, the bucket of iodophor solution “got it” too… a layer of slime on the top with little green polka dots…

Oooops. Won’t do that again will you?

Eh, no.

Five day sour mash? How’d that smell?  :o

Let’s say…interesting. Put it out on the compost pile…didn’t want to poison the lamas…lets see if anyone eats it…

I can just imagine Oscar tentatively cracking the lid of the tun and taking a whiff… ;D

A dab of Vicks Vaporub on your upper lip can hide a multitude of nastiness.

You need a brew apprentice!

Dood, I feel ya. I had a mash tun go sour on me after “forgetting”

I make it a point to clean as much if not all of it before the chiller is done…

Warm water-out helps…I can only imagine. One strategic thunderstorm and bam! The
mash tun grows legs and walks out on its own!!!
