Indeed it’s excellent. I just finished my first bottle of Northern Hemisphere also and I must say, it’s as magical as the first time I had it in ‘06, and I’ve been disappointed in that one in recent years.
I tried it at the Asheville brewery when I was back east for the holidays. It’s really delicious. I haven’t had it before, so I can’t compare vintages but I’ll certainly be looking for it again in the future.
Just into my first of the year. I always look forward to this one. As a guy who by far prefers “beer flavored beer,” I think we could use less spice and more seasonals in the traditional Burton ale/ winter warmer mold (I know they call it IPA, they’re just using words the kids understand.) Luscious beer. Again.
I was reading Stan Hieronymus’s blog today and he commented on how SN doesn’t label where their beer is brewed. They do, but not clearly: there’s a date code which has a C for Chico or M for Mills River. It’s easy to see on the carrier but pretty much impossible on the bottle. I checked tonight and I’ve got it from Mills River this year and it tastes just as great as the Chico beers I’ve had in the past. They obviusly put a lot of time into replicating conditions at the NC brewery.
Bottles have a code printed on the shoulder, low contrast to the brown glass but it should be there. An M is Mills River. Most of their beers east of the Mississippi come from there.
I’m just not loving the 12 pack I purchased. Seems overly bitter. The Packaging date was 10/30. It’s good, just not as good as it has been in the past.
Bummer. Hey, I haven’t had one in a while, don’t recall if I’ve ever looked close, but clue me in to the date code on Yuengling. Is it one of those self-evident Julian codes, like where today would have the sequence 19010 somewhere in it, 10th day of '19?
