I plan on starting an American Brown Ale in 2 days. I ran into a deal on some organic cocoa nibs and could not resist the idea of adding them to my brew. I have read on here a lot about soaking them in Vodka for a few days prior and then pitching into the secondary for one to two weeks before bottling. My thought was to use Bourbon instead. This is only my third brew and would welcome any and all advice and/or encouragement. Thanks.
Sure, there is no reason why you wouldn’t be able to do that. Since this is only your third brew go easy on the cacao nibs. For a brown ale I think you would want the cacao to be a background flavor. 1-2 oz per 5 gallons should be enough.
Good to know, I was going to use a bit more. Do not want the flavor to overwhelm the beer. Thank you
You can always taste it and add more.
